Gelding about 16hh, 6 years old

We decribe Remy as a little Ferarri, gorgeous and athletic. He retired from the track with an impressive race record with winnings topping $300 grand. He also retired with a fractured sesmiod.

UPDATE 7/7/10: Remy has completed his rehab and was cleared by the vet to start working and started ground training about 3 weeks ago. Trainer states "he is a very nice horse" and vet feels that he healed well and can go on to a career including jumping.

Ace is a stunning horse with a sweet disposition who needs a special home. Ace has a cyst on his navicular but he is currently sound with shoeing. He will do best in a light work, non-jumping home with a horse person experienced enough to address his special needs.

6 year old Bay Mare, star, approx. 15.2hh

We can not say enough about this mare's fabulous and sweet personality. She is extremely gentle and quiet. Someone forgot to tell her she was a Thoroughbred because she looks just like a Quarter Horse. She was retired from the track because she was too slow for racing, not surprising given her very mellow attitude. She is a big bodied mare that moves with purpose. She is under saddle, great in the arena, goes on trails alone or with company and on a loose rein. Beauty is also starting over ground poles to get her ready to jump. We will continue her training until she is adopted. She is sane, quiet, easy to handle and trailers like a dream. She would make anyone a great partner for any discipline.

Irish Delight is a chestnut mare who has been under saddle for a couple of months. She is 11 yo, approx. 16hh, has a good mind and sweet in-your-pocket personality.  Delight loves attention and being groomed. She is sound for riding, is a very cute mover and with more training should make and excellent trail or pleasure mount.

Irish has told us in no uncertain terms that she would like a home in a large paddock or pasture with a friend. She is not happy living in a stall or similiar small space as she will spend her day weaving.

Chestnut mare, approx. 16+ hh, 11 years old

Mysti is an athletic mare who we believe will be best suited in an very experienced riding home or as a sport horse broodmare. Mysti has been under saddle but needs and experienced and soft rider to continue her training. We would love to place this athletic mare in the perfect home. Cute as a button, in your pocket kind of colt. .Sweet, gentle, sane and easy. This gelding is about 16hh at 3yrs old.

Bear has been growing up in pasture and is turning into a handsome, mature man. We started his  ground training about a month ago and he is coming along well. He is easy and sweet to work with and we think he will be a breeze to bring along in any direction. Take him home today and train him your way, he will make a great project horse for any discipline.

UPDATE: Bear is currently lunging well under saddle and ground driving. He is very easy to work with and train.

UPDATE: 7/7/10 Bear has been backed and trotted under saddle. He was a very good boy.

UPDATE: 7/22/10 Bear is going wonderfully under saddle and is ready for a permanent home.

5 yr old, chestnut gelding standing about 16hh.

Affectionatley nicknamed Scooby by one of our volunteers. Scooby is currently cruising the ranch with a 12 year old girl. Is tolerating dogs, goats, sheep and bicycles and is now trotting under saddle. Scooby is really looking forward to his own dedicated caregiver as he does best when he gets to know you a bit.

Scooby was donated to CANTER after injuring his suspensory and is just starting to see the world after his long rehab. He is a very sweet and friendly soul that needs a non-jumping, pleasure or trail riding home.

This horse is ready for a new home and ready for the show ring. We can't say enough about this horse's outstanding personality and brain. Bransfield is currently being ridden by a pony clubber and would make an excellent junior or adult amatuer horse. We think he would be fantastic in the hunter ring, what a great prospect that can go in any direction. Bransfield came off the racetrack with a suspensory that is completely healed and the vet has approved him for any discipline including jumping under 3 feet.

9 yr old grey gelding about 16hh

Mr B is a favorite in the CANTER barn here in Bonsall. He is sweet, willing to please and a man who needs a job.

When Mr B first came to the barn he was tense and edgy. I watched him day after day, and it came to me. Mr B was a racehorse for 6 yrs, ran many times and earned his living honestly. He was like a hard core wall street trader who woke up one morning and someone told him he was retired... He didn't know how to relax and enjoy the sea breezes that met him in his stall. It took him a while, and now he is enjoying his new 'job'.   Mr B has spark, is not wired for a beginner, but he is very enjoyable to ride, is getting his leads and loves to work.

Mister B is suitable for lower level showing, including jumping, pleasure or trail. He is forward horse and will do best in a knowledgable home where his training can be continued. He has been out walking hills on the property and continues with his arena work. We are looking for someone to give this lovely boy a wonderful home.

Eisenheim 5 year old, 16.2, soon-to-be gelding

The best word to describe Eisenheim is that he is a gentleman.  He is exceptionally quiet, gentle, and kind as a stallion so we can just imagine how much more so he will be as a gelding.  Eisen just arrived and he is a little body sore so we are still evaluating him for soundness and riding aptitude.  So far we don't have a negative comment to offer about this boy.  He is tall and solidly built so he may make a great sporthorse after a little time to rest. Eisenheim is very well bred and you may view his pedigree here.

4 yr old, steel grey gelding about 16.2 - 16. 3

Blue was described by his racing trainer as the barn pet and now that he's at the CANTER facility we know why. This boy is so sweet, curious, and affectionate that he's great fun to be around.  Blue has lots of presence and he's really a head turner.  Blue bowed his right front tendon in January 2010 and he will need time off for rehabilitation.  We think Blue would make a fantastic sporthorse once his rehab is complete.

4 year old, soon to be gelding, 16.1 hh dark bay

O Lei is quickly becoming a barn favorite with his caregiver.  He is a sweet, affectionate boy who nickers when you enter the barn and he loves to be petted.  O Lei is also very curious and brave.  When confronted with something new he tries to examine the scary object rather than simply running away.  He is exceptionally quiet for a horse in rehab and he is very cooperative when it comes to being trimmed by the farrier or clipped.  We think O Lei has the potential to be a great riding horse for any discipline.

O Lei had surgery to stabilize a condylar fracture. He is ready to return to work and is cleared to move into any career. He will start his training shortly.
