Welcome to CANTER Kentucky

CANTER is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing retiring racehorses with opportunities for new careers after the finish line.

CANTER believes Thoroughbreds are winners on and off the track!

You can bet on it!

Executive Director for CANTER Kentucky

Amanda Graham

July 2014-CANTER KENTUCKY has been awarded a generous grant from The Brennan Equine Welfare Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. This grant will have an impact on Thoroughbreds in Kentucky who are non-competitive on the racetrack, but can excel as an equine athlete, in a new career.

The Brennan Equine Welfare Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s grant will help CANTER Kentucky provide retraining for thoroughbred racehorses that are not fast enough to win races or have suffered racetrack injuries.

These magnificent equine athletes thrive with new challenges and training. Thoroughbreds are trained as Sport Horses such as Hunter-Jumpers, Eventers, Cross Country, Dressage and Trails.

Through this support of CANTER, Brennan Equine Welfare Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, has the “Heart of a Thoroughbred”

Welcome to CANTER KY-please check out the horses we have available in our trainer listings, as well as, our CANTER KY owned horses who are  looking for that perfect forever home!!

We are also very proud of our CANTER KY "sold" horses that have found new careers in a variety of trades.

Thank you Turfway Park and the TAP program for your generous donation to CANTER KY. We helped place 44 trainer listed horses in addition to 3 that were donated to CANTER in 2013.

We want to thank Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Turfway Park, Victory Haven, The Thoroughbred Training Center in Lexington and all the people who have made CANTER KY such a success since we established a CANTER KY chapter in November 2009.

CANTER KY is also 100% dependant upon our volunteers. Without them we would not be able to take listing information for the OTTB's that you see posted on our website. We are very grateful for their hard work and dedication in helping these horses find good homes!

CANTER KY is in need of volunteers in the Lexington, Louisville and Florence KY area. Please contact Amanda@canterusa.org for more information.
