Racing Has Ended at Suffolk Downs. Some Horses Still for Sale

It's official: with the "no" on the casino from the Gaming Commission, Suffolk Downs officials have announced that the track will close for good at the end of this meet.

If you have been considering an OTTB but have been hesitating--now is the time to move!  There are still horses for sale at Suffolk Downs, but trainers are shipping out, so act now if you are interested in a horse.

Some notes:

  • Unless otherwise noted, horses offered in the Trainer Listings section are stabled at Suffolk Downs in E. Boston, MA
  • Because things change rapidly at this time of year, please call the trainer DIRECTLY--do not email CANTER with questions about when the horse is leaving, etc.  We do not have up-to-the-minute info
  • If you agree to buy a horse but want to arrange a PPE, please find out who the trainer's vet is and contact adoptions@canterne.org--we can give you info on a vet who may be able to assist
  • Some horses will be for sale on farms, so we do expect to have listings for some time to come

Good luck and happy horse shopping!

View the Horses Available for Adoption through CANTER NE

In addition to the horses being sold by their racing trainers, CANTER has some beautiful adoptive placement horses—several of whom have been started under saddle—waiting for great homes!

dewamere-trotting-0512 Dewamere is an adoptive horse that needs surgery for a racing-related injury.  If you would like to help Dew by contributing toward the cost of surgery, please visit our Donation page.
