Blue Horse Charities was formed in 2001 to raise money for the rescue and adoption of Thoroughbreds at risk of going to a slaughterhouse, and for creating awareness of the problem of horse slaughter. It is funded by voluntary contributions from consignors and/or buyers of Thoroughbred racehorses through Fasig-Tipton including a substantial matching of each donation by Fasig-Tipton itself! Their first distribution of funds received from 226 buyers and consignees was distributed to 17 agencies who had placed 522 horses!

CANTER exists solely on donations. CANTER is an all Volunteer organization, so EVERY dollar donated goes to help the thoroughbreds. CANTER Michigan, alone, has taken in over 100 horses in 2007 and dozens more will be coming our way as the racing season ends. Many of these new horses need immediate surgery, foot care, vaccinations, and lots of food.
