| In order to continue our horse donation and safety net program, we are in desperate need of Foster Homes (Foster FAQs), Financial Donations, or Sponsoring of Horses. Please consider donating today so that CANTER may continue accepting these wonderful horses who might otherwise end up at auction. To make a donation, or find out how you can help, please visit this page. We have a bunch of horses available for purchase by approved buyers. If you haven't already submitted an application, please do so as soon as possible so that we may get your application processed and there is no hold up when you find your perfect equine partner. To purchase a CANTER owned horse first read our Purchase Guidelines then proceed to our online approval form. This form must be filled out and submitted before we will make an appointment for you to see a horse. * Please note: the form is available in a printable form and can be submitted via mail. We are unable to "hold" horses for potential purchasers while approvals are being processed, so please submit an approval form as soon as possible. NOTE: CANTER Mid Atlantic has limited its adoption area to within 5 hours of our Maryland location and can, therefore, only consider applications from those residing within that distance. We do, in special circumstances, allow horses to go outside of this range provided the purchaser agrees to cover all costs of shipping the horse back to CANTER in the event it does not work out. Please note that this restriction does not apply to purchasing horses directly from the racetrack. NOTICE: CANTER Mid Atlantic has recently begun working with local trainers to begin the retraining process on CANTER - owned horses in an effort to give them a head-start in their sport horse careers. Horses who are in our retraining program are believed sound for all disciplines, have been let down, and evaluated by professionals to determine what type of career they will excel in. As space and funds allow, we will put eligible horses in the retraining program. Though they are priced higher than CANTER owned horses without retraining, we feel that they are truly bargains for someone looking to purchase a horse who will be able to go right into work, and possibly into competitions. If time allows, we will be bringing horses in training to events and other horse shows, to give them additional mileage. |
| Cryininthechapel, 3 year old beautiful bay filly. No vices, off the track for a month and ready to start work. 16+ hands and growing. Great ground manners and sweet to work around. Is missing the tips of her ears from a frostbite incident as a youngster, we think they are adorable!

| Wek: Such a strange name for such a lovely 4 year old filly. Wek has been turned out since July 2007 after retiring from a sore knee. We're happy to report that the knee is healed (though not the prettiest, but pretty is as pretty does, ask Allie about her giant-kneed event horse! - Shown HERE). Wek has come up a little wonky behind, however we feel that she is one that only requires someone who will put work into her to get the hind end strengthened properly. However, she would also make a lovely broodmare, as she is a big mare with solid structure. Standing at 16 hands (and should grow a bit more) with a very big barrel, and has really pretty movement as well. Email about her price, it is very negotiable to the right home. Wek will go with papers but cannot be bred to race, though sporthorse breeding would be just fine, and is currently being fostered by some fabulous folks just outside of Charles Town West Virginia. | Sunshine Admiral: An elegant, intelligent, sweet and quiet 9 year old 16.1 hand dark bay gelding. Don't let his shaggy coat fool you, he is spectacular when shedded out. "Adam" as the farm owners call him has trail ridden in the past and his former owner tells us that he took him for bareback walks in just a halter when he was on the track. Admiral was a big money winner and earned his retirement many times over. We've found him to a wonderful personality and a spectacular mover. Admiral has a large ankle that fused many years ago, but you would never know it unless you were paying attention--this guy moves beautifully and could go on to do any type of pleasure riding or low jumps you'd like. Ideally he'd be used for trail riding, dressage or local shows and popping over logs on the trails. Once he is back in the groove of being ridden we think he will be bombproof. Admiral is a VERY light cribber, in fact we had no idea he cribbed until he was locked in a stall a month into us owning him. Outside he does not wear a collar. Asking $700 but negotiable to a forever home. Email Allie at CANTER for more information. Fill out an Approval Form! |
| Freshening: This fella is as cute as a chestnut can be. He just turned 3 (he is an April baby) and is as cute and sweet as can be. He is barefoot and running sound around the field, which means he is ready to start being trained by his new person for whatever career that maybe. Other than dirt, he doesn't have any blemishes. He is sound, has no limitations and is ready to find a home of his own where he can be loved and spoiled. He is around 15.3-16hh and still growing. He is currently located in Southern Maryland. Asking $600 - price will go up once he has started training. Email Allie at CANTER for more information. Fill out an Approval Form! |

Calabria Rose: Adorable 3 year old dark bay 15.1 hand filly with a beautiful trot and athletic canter. Rose’s arrival at CANTER is the result of many groups working together to pre-rescue a horse who was destined to go to auction where her fate was uncertain. With her purchase price and one month of care secured by Mid Atlantic Horse Rescue and “Friends of Twilight” to verbal support from Alex Brown and “Friends of Barbaro” this lovely filly was able to come to live at the CANTER farm. When Rose first arrived in November she was quite body sore. With 2 weeks of turnout, and proper footcare, she is trotting around as sound as can be. Rose will be available for adoption sooner than we anticipated. Keep your eyes peeled if you are looking for a fun event or hunter prospect. CANTER would very much like her adoption price to be paid to Mid Atlantic Horse Rescue, so they may save another lucky soul headed for auction. Pictures of her first time being turned out - Click HERE. Asking $600 - price will go up once she has started training. Email Allie at CANTER for more information. Fill out an Approval Form! |

Miamineedsahalo: 5 year old dark bay 15.1hh adorable gelding. Mikey came to us two years ago with a broken sesamoid. He tolerated 4 months of stall rest wonderfully and has been turned out for 20 months now. He is a WONDERFUL personality, and loves to snuggle. His favorite activity is to steal your hat and run away. Truly one of the neatest horses I've ever met in my life. Well, they say sesamoids take two years to heal, and "they" aren't wrong, Mikey is running around sound as can be. Sound for trail and pleasure riding. Fill out an Approval Form! |

Truckee Trend: "Truckee" is an ADORABLE 4 year old flashy blood bay gelding. He's currently experiencing a rather impressive growth spurt, so he should end up around 15.3. Sound on an old bow (it was over a year old, he was training on it just fine). Cute mover and quite personable. Easy to work with. Email Allie at CANTER for more information. Storm Bank: I'm searching for a Sponsor! Storm Bank is currently in the care of the wonderful people at Matilda Bay Farm, in beautiful Shepherdstown, WV. This beautiful chestnut gelding is going on his fourth month of stall rest due to a major tendon injury in his front leg. Storm Bank arrived to Matilda Bay angry, ornery and not so much happy with people. With the fabulous care is receiving on a daily basis, he has become much more friendly and is making slow but steady progress with his injury. We feel he deserves some kindness in his life, and a chance to be pain-free and happy. If you have even a dollar to spare, please consider donating to CANTER in his name. Indy’s Wolf: 15.2 hand 4 year old, quiet, but full of personality flashy chestnut gelding. Pretty mover, though we think he’s a bit on the lazy side. Indy would tell you he’s “fashionably lazy”. 1/30/08 UPDATE - Indy has made his debut as a show horse! This little guy is only 15.1, but you cannot find a quieter guy to do whatever you would like to do with him. Since the day Jessica placed a saddle on him, he has been nothing but cooperative, willing and eager, and even went to his very first hunter schooling show only one month after being restarted! Indy needs to go to a very special home who will not mind getting greeting cards, Christmas stockings, birthday presents and boxes of Carrots and mints from his previous owners. They love him very much, and we can see why. Indy is absolutely a big box of adorable, there is no other way to describe him. He is going to make an ideal kids horse, and could go on to show, event, Pony Club, or pleasure ride. Asking $3500 His first over fences class Snoozing at the showgrounds After warming up on the Racetrack Email Allie for more details, this guy is special! Fill out an Approval Form! |
