Welcome to CANTER Mid Atlantic

We need your help!!
CANTER Mid Atlantic desperately needs your assistance to continue our operations. Please consider donating even $5.00 towards caring for Thoroughbreds who were not lucky enough to be successful at the racetrack. Payments can be made directly to the organization through our Pay Pal link, Donation Address or directly to our Veterinarian. (Please contact CANTER if you'd like to send payment to vet). All donations go directly toward the care of Thoroughbreds until they find a new home.

CANTER Horse Blogs

CANTER Mid Atlantic has started something new with a select few of our horses. In an effort to chronicle the ups and downs of Thoroughbred Retraining, we have several people who have volunteered to write about their day-to-day experience with individual horses. This will provide a wonderful learning opportunity for the Thoroughbred-buying public, as well as being an amazing opportunity for our horses. You will read about the good, the great, the bad, and the ugly. Our hope is to bring each horse from the racetrack to recognized competition. We hope you will join in on the journey.

CANTER Graduate Competition News and Kudos:
  • Congratulations to Jeannette Ford and "Last Train Home" for their 2nd place finish at Lumber River Horse Trials at Carolina Horse Park. This score qualified them for the Eventing Championships, a fabulous feat for their second try at Novice!

  • Congratulations to Kathy Hurd and Flint Hill on completing their very first Horse Trial! This pair has been together for just under 2 months and they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. Look out big time eventers, Flint is on his way up in the world! Pro photos HERE.

  • Kudos going out to Jeannette Ford again, riding "Emily Bug" a 4 year old filly purchased from CANTER, at the Sharon White Clinic at Elysian Hills in Marshall Virginia. This dynamic pair conquered all of the scary XC jumps out there, and even gave leads over jumps to other horses in the group!

    FOSTER Homes Needed

CANTER Mid Atlantic is trying to pull as many horses off the track as possible, but we need your help. We are full to the gills and need foster homes in the Mid-Atlantic area that can take horses on short notice. If you can help, please email us.

    Volunteers Needed

CANTER Mid Atlantic is looking to fill some volunteer positions at the racetrack. If you have one Saturday free a month to dedicate to assisting racehorses find new homes, and are comfortable with viewing hundreds of gorgeous horses each time without taking them all home, we've got the job for you! Email us today to find out when our next trip is. Sorry, but we can only take folks who are 18 or older due to track regulations.
