trainer listings

LISTINGS UPDATED AS OF 7/03/2008
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ THE FAQs ABOUT VISITING THE TRACK

These horses DO NOT require adoption applications. Please contact the listed owner directly for more information.

If you make an appointment with a trainer, don't be a "no show". No shows are the kind of thing that can ruin the CANTER program, and hurt the horses, in the end, as it discourages trainers from listing retiring horses. If you can't make it, call them and cancel. It only takes a minute, and a deserving horse might have a chance at a new life because of your courtesy.
NOTICE: PLEASE ONLY CALL A SELLER, AND/OR MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO COME SEE A HORSE OR HORSE(S) AT THE TRACK OR ON THE FARM, IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT BUYING AN OTTB.

If you do not have the stall, funds, training resources, or other arrangements in place to take on a horse at this time, please do not call the trainers or come to the track/farm, out of fairness to the horses (and to people taking the time out of their workday to show and talk about their horses to you. )
IF TRAINERS FEEL THAT THEY ARE WASTING THEIR TIME ON "TIREKICKERS," THESE HORSES ARE THE ONES WHO ULTIMATELY PAY THE PRICE. Thank you for your consideration.

(Wonder how the trainers view the selling experience?

SUFFOLK DOWNS IS OPEN FOR RACING - AND HORSES ARE BACK AT THE TRACK!

Prospective owners who are ready to bring home an OTTB now are invited to inquire about available horses.

If you are seriously interested in one or more of these horses, please contact the trainer/owner noted in the listing for more information and to arrange to come see the horse.

If you would prefer to come look at horses while escorted by a CANTER NE volunteer, please e-mail us to make an appointment for a Saturday morning (volunteers are available to escort buyers from 8-11 AM on Saturdays. We regret that, as volunteers, we are only able to escort buyers on Saturday mornings; please contact trainers directly to schedule appointments on other days/times).

2008: BACK IN THE LISTINGS! T05-1156-11. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Dark bay, 16 hands, 5 years old
"Merrimack Diane" is a STUNNING mare who is just the SWEETEST thing...all the volunteers fell in love with her! Trainer has taken exceptional care of her - she glows with good health - but she's just not a racehorse, and he's accepted that. Price: $2,000 negotiable - trainer's priority is finding "his girl" the best possible home! Call Steve Hamilton, 857-389-2435.

2008: BACK IN THE LISTINGS! T06-2080-08. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Liver chestnut with chrome, 15.2 hands, 6 years old
"Cashmere Kelly" is a striking lass with rich coloring - she has flaxen streaks in her mane and tail! - and a calm, relaxed personality. Owner has had her for most of her life and states that she is perfectly sound, no issues - in fact, she's such a natural athlete, she's already been started under saddle! Goes w/t/c beautifully, jumps a 2'6" course with the potential to go higher. Unlimited possibilities abound for this girl: pony club, child's hunter/jumper, even eventing! Now back at Suffolk Downs! Price: $3,999 negotiable. Call Alan Lockhart, 508-415-9022 or e-mail alpal2187@yahoo.com.

T06-2176-10. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Steel gray/roan, 16 hands, 7 years old, "Gothic" is a beautiful horse looking for a new home. This gray stunner has some calcification in one ankle, but trainer says he's going completely sound on it; does have a small cloudy spot in his right eye, but is not bothered by it. This horse is very athletic and naturally quick on his feet: he can be strong, so is a good choice for an experienced rider who wants a bold and courageous mount. Price Reduced: $2,500 negotiable. Call Ed Connolly, 813-495-8714.

T06-2226-11. TRAINER-OWNED STALLION, Bay, 15.2 hands, 8 years old
"Baldski's Image" is about the most un-stallion-like stallion you'll ever meet: he is truly lovable, sweet, and a peach to handle! Baldski is a well-bred boy (son of Mecke and grandson of the beloved Ferdinand) who raced primarily on turf; he is sound with very little mileage on his legs. Baldski is used to being turned out on the farm; though he is still green under saddle, he has such an excellent temperament and work ethic that he should make retraining very easy in the right hands! Price: $3,750; good home a must. On the farm in Saugus, MA - UPDATE 2008: going under saddle, looks beautiful! Call Michael Benson at 617-592-6934.

T07-2279-07. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 15.3 hands and growing, 4 years old, "Consecutive Hit" is a stunner! Very classy and athletic, he has the most beautiful dappled coat and four flashy white feet. Consecutive sustained a very minor tendon bow on his right front a few months ago ago (it happened when he got stuck in his stall), but it is cold, set, and not bugging him at all - he is a NICE mover! This handsome fellow should be a fine retraining project for just about any job. He is sure to be a standout in the show ring! Price Reduced: $1,500. Call Bill Keane at 352-615-1266.

T07-2332-08. TRAINER-OWNED STALLION, Bay, 15.1/15.2 hands with blocky build, 10 years old, Sport pony breeders: TAKE NOTICE! "Seemslikeyesterday" is a durable athlete who has more than proven his mettle and innate stamina: he's raced an incredible 119 times, and still looks like a million bucks. He has an inquisitive, handsome face, and is very interested in what's going on around him. Trainer has had this boy for a while and is quite fond of him; says he's a really easy keeper and nice to be around - "has earned a good retirement." Can't beat the pedigree, either - Yesterday is out of a Phone Trick mare with several other notable names to be found. Jogging sound on an enlarged right front ankle, which trainer states is "really only noticeable after a race," and shouldn't hamper him in a career as a flatwork prospect off the track. Great to handle for a stallion (though not a beginner's horse). Price: $2,000 negotiable. Call Bernie Bramante, 617-291-5104.

T07-2334-08. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Light bay with white (and partial roaning!), 16.1 hands, 8 years old, "Freedom Lane" is a flashy horse with a winning personality to match! He has unique markings on his left front; from the knee down, he appears to have roaning on one half of his leg...very neat. Freedom is a quiet, gentle sort who behaved impeccably during his photo shoot. Trainer says he's always that sweet, and is sound - just not fast enough to justify shipping him down to Florida this winter. This is a horse who should fit nicely into just about any job, and should prove a willing, smart retraining prospect! Price: $2,000 negotiable. Call Bernie Bramante, 617-291-5104.

T07-2346-09. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Chestnut, 16.1 hands, 8 years old, "Corporate Intrigue" is very athletic and has the potential to do anything! He just needs someone to take him there. Sound, clean-legged, no vices...will be a great retraining project for the experienced horseperson. Can be seen on the farm in Bernardston, MA (about half an hour north of Amherst). Price Reduced: $2,500. Call Curtis Brown at 413-648-0010 or e-mail pappybrown@verizon.net.

2008: BACK IN THE LISTINGS! T07-2350-09. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Bay, 16.2 hands, 5 years old,
"Runforthepennant" has certainly earned her endearing barn name - "Big Bertha"! Built like a tank, she is also exceptionally easygoing; trainer describes her as "sweet, laid back, with zero bad habits...a big puppy!" She is used to life on the farm and is great in turnout. Does have an old bandage bow, but she sustained it years ago and it doesn't bother her. Will make a lovely dressage prospect with that shoulder - and would also make a heck of a sporthorse broodmare, with her size (and with names like Cozzene and Personal Flag up close in her pedigree)! Imagine her crossed with a Warmblood! Price: $2,500 negotiable. Call the Suffolk Downs main stable gate, 617-567-3900; ask to leave a message for trainer Odin Londano regarding the horse for sale by his assistant, Shannon.

T07-2353-09. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Bay, 15.1 hands, 5 years old
Look up "born kid's prospect" in the dictionary and you'll see "Arrested Gatorgirl"'s picture! This darling little mare is willing, gentle, and has some great off-the-track riding experience under her belt - she has been ridden on the farm by her trainer's 13-year-old daughter. Racing is not really her cup of tea, but she will be a star as a lucky child or teenager's riding buddy! Price: $2,000 negotiable. Call Wayne Sargent, 352-229-0509.
<---NEW PHOTO, JUNE 2008!

T07-2357-09. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Bay, 16 hands, 6 years old
From renowned sporthorse bloodlines to a sunny disposition - "Don't Explain" is the real deal! Owner describes this daughter of Is It True as "sound and gorgeous...very sweet, no vices. We love her, but she just isn't the runner we hoped for." She is in excellent condition: has a tiny knot on her tendon that she has had since she was a foal; it has never bothered her. It's very important to her connections that this sweetie pie retire from the track while she's sound and happy. She will scoop up the blue ribbons and give you a reason to smile every day! Price: $3,000 negotiable. Call John Rodriguez, 603-553-7343.

T07-2386-10. TRAINER-OWNED STALLION, Bay, 15/15.1 hands, 6 years old, You can't ask for a better pedigree in a sporthorse sire than "Mardo Kayo"'s: he is by the phenom sire Fit to Fight! A breeding career isn't the only thing this flashy gentleman would shine in, however; Kayo is sound, and excellent mover, and very nicely put together - short-coupled and correct. Has been ridden on the farm and owner says he "doesn't have a clue he's a stallion." Can be seen on the farm in Saugus, MA - UPDATE 2008: continues to go under saddle and is a natural! Price: $3,750 negotiable - good home a must! Call Michael Benson, 617-592-6934.

2008: BACK IN THE LISTINGS! T08-2422-02. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Chestnut, 16 hands, 6 years old
Sporthorse breeders should take a good look: "Scheme a Little" is a very pretty mare with a coat the color of shimmering copper, and a disposition to match! This is a true hunter-type mare. She has a green osselet (ankle calcification), but although she is not a jumping candidate, she moves BEAUTIFULLY! Very well put together and a very sensible mare, quiet and kind. Will be a great asset to any barn; nice low-level dressage/pleasure prospect, and an excellent sporthorse broodmare prospect, too: she's by a son of Deputy Minister and out of a Crafty Prospector mare. Cross her with a Hanoverian, Oldenburg, even draft stallion - she'll add refinement and substance to your program! Price: $2,000 negotiable.
Call Al Michelson at 352-207-9823 or 781-341-1649.

T08-2430-04. TRAINER-OWNED FILLY, Dark bay, ~15 hands and growing fast, 2 years old
"Tranquility's Hope" is a wonderful filly who is as lovely as her name, in every way! Beautiful girl (a granddaughter of the legendary sire and Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled, with Silver Buck on her dam's side),  gentle and kind. She was born with a crooked leg, and cannot hold up to racing. However, she gets around just fine, and this should not prevent her from becoming a first-rate pleasure horse or companion! She is green under saddle but has perfect manners - a true lady. Open to offers from excellent homes - owner loves this girl and wants to do right by her. She will light up someone's life! Can be seen on the farm in Saugus, MA. Call Michael Benson, 617-592-6934.

T08-2431-04. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 16.3 hands,
6 years old
"Stonepen" shows his noble lineage in his looks and demeanor: his father won the Kentucky Derby, and though this tall glass of water didn't inherit such racing prowess, he conducts himself like a star at all times. Stonepen has an affectionate, pet-like personality that makes him his entire barn's favorite! He has some old knee enlargement, and is not a jumping candidate, but will make a first-rate trail and flatwork prospect.  Good home a must. Price: $1,500. Call Bill Keane at 352-615-1266.

T08-2433-05. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Dark bay, 16+ hands, 11 years old
"Prado Power" is absolutely GORGEOUS: look at that build (what a neck set), nice big feet, and regal demeanor! A professional, kind, and intelligent animal, this magnificent son of famed Irish stallion El Prado has been an outstanding competitor, but is showing clear signs that he's done with this racing stuff and ready to move on to something new. Trainer says he's "a dream to work with" - come meet this handsome gent! Price: $2,500 negotiable. Call Ozzie Rivera, 401-617-1657.

T08-2434-05. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Chestnut with chrome galore, 16 hands, 9 years old
"Whateveryouwant" is flashy and attractive (no wonder - check out his pedigree). He is a good athlete and has enjoyed a successful racing career, but it's time to move on to new challenges and greener pastures! Price: $3,000. Call Dave Lezell at 781-956-0404.

T08-2435-05. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Near black, 16 hands, 4 years old
"Touch of Cat" is described by his trainer as "a sweet horse who needs someone to love him!" He is the proverbial "Black Beauty" come to life, both in his satiny ebony coat and his dignified, kind demeanor. Does have some knee soreness on the track, and trainer doesn't want to push him; should be a lifelong partner for trails and pleasure work on the flat. Price: $1,000, good home a must! T08-2436-05. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
, Gray, 16.2 hands, 7 years old

Does have some soreness in training, so trainer doesn't want to risk getting him hurt. Price: $600 negotiable, good homes only - NO DEALERS! NOTE: We have been informed that trainer's phone # is no longer working - we're trying to obtain a new number. T08-2437-05. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Dark bay, 16 hands, 5 years old
"Ready to Fleet" is a LOVEBUG! This classically handsome boy is so kind that he was brought out for his photo by a young boy, using just a lead shank. Trainer brought him back from the farm to retrain as an outrider pony, but has two others and decided to scale back. Don't miss this sweet looker! Price: $2,500 negotiable.  Call John at 603-849-5669.

T08-2438-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 16.1 hands, 7 years old
With easy, smooth movement and a substantial build,
"De Charmer"
very quickly caught the attention of the CANTER volunteers.  This good-natured gelding has great bone and will transition very well to a less strenuous career.  He had the start of a minor suspensory tear, so his trainer doesn't want to push him - but the vets give him a very good prognosis for a future life as a riding horse!  Price: $3,500 or best offer.  Call Michelle Jeffrey at 339-293-9462.

T08-2439-06. TRAINER-OWNED QUARTER HORSE GELDING, Chestnut, 15.3 hands, 6 years old
Big-boned with HUGE feet, "Buster" started his training to be a lead pony…but trainer has decided he'd rather fill the stall with another racehorse! Western-broke, kind and solid, this good guy will make someone a great partner. Price $2,500. Call Ozzie Rivera at 401-617-1657.

T08-2440-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Dark bay, 16.1 hands, 4 years old
With only two starts under his belt, "Corvetting Mike" has the nice long stride and daisy cutter motion perfect for the hunter ring!  He did have ankle surgery to remove a small chip from his ankle last October, but he is jogging sound and his prognosis is excellent.  Price: $3,999, negotiable to a good home.  Contact Diane Cerundolo at passageeast@comcast.net or 603-553-0074.

T08-2442-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Mahogany bay with white, 16.1 hands, 10 years old
With a nice big build and great neck and shoulder, "Silent Scamper" was quite the gentleman when posing elegantly for his picture. He is a superb athlete who is ready to change jobs; does have a slight tear in his tendon and needs two more months to recuperate…but he has a very  bright future ahead of him, and his healing will be expedited by his sensible and very sweet personality! With an adorable star and snip, he has a face and expression to fall in love with. Come meet this boy and prepare to be captivated! Price: $1,000, negotiable to a good home. Call Lea at 508-785-1677.

T08-2443-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Liver chestnut, 15.2 hands, 4 years old
Just like the designer with an almost identical name, “Armanni” is pure class, elegance, and never goes out of style! What a great-looking horse..and if you are looking for the perfect mount for a child or small adult, meet your boy: this guy is so sweet, trainer says little kids can walk right up to him and he’ll put his head down for pats and scratches. She describes him as a “big puppy dog who just doesn’t want to run!” Sound and immensely kind, he’s adorable and a steal at $1,500 negotiable. Finding the right home VERY important to trainer! Call Michelle Tasso at 781-244-9884.

T08-2444-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 16.2 hands, 4 years old
“Win For Justin” is a tall, striking son of the famed Cryptoclearance. He’s a perfect gentleman who just isn’t proving to be much of a runner! Trainer calls him “a good guy” – sound, leggy, with no vices or bad habits. Pic does him no justice (flies were bugging him but he was still very, very patient) - he's going to be quite the stunner in the show ring. Should make a fun and easy retraining project! Price Reduced: $1,500 negotiable. Call Lorita Lindemann at 603-670-8192.
<<--UPDATED PHOTO!

T08-2445-06. TRAINER-OWNED FILLY, Chestnut, 15 hands, 4 years old
“Sweet Theresa” is a lot of sweetness in a small package! This adorable young lady has been treated exceptionally well by her connections, who want to do right by her now that she’s made it clear she simply isn’t racehorse material (she is sound and clean-legged, just routinely comes in at the back of the pack!) Intelligent and interested, she should make a fantastic pony club mount. She’s also very nicely bred (Forty Niner bloodlines on her sire’s side, Raise a Native on her dam’s)…great sporthorse pony broodmare prospect. Price: $1,000 negotiable to a wonderful home; she is much loved and owner wants to know she’s going to the right person! Call Brenda McCarthy at 978-807-4083.

T08-2447-06. TRAINER-OWNED COLT, Gray, 17 hands, 4 years old
"Hunk Richardson" is a big and BEAUTIFUL colt with size and substance galore. Great feet and particularly well put-together for his height, too! Price: $3,500 negotiable. Call Eddie Stone at 781-245-5733.

T08-2448-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 15.2 hands, 7 years old
"Rizzi's Gossip" is a supremely cute (look at those adorable big ears) and easygoing fellow who is always a pleasure to work around; trainer says he's even easy to gallop on the track in the mornings. That steady-eddie disposition is likely why he's not exactly setting track records! Trainer looking to cut her losses while finding this adorable boy a new job that makes him happy. Price: $1,000 negotiable to a good home. Call Terry McCarthy at 727-385-8397.

T08-2450-06. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Bay, 16 hands, 6 years old
"Market Research" is the apple of her trainer's eye, and for good reason: this substantial mare with classic TB grace is, according to everyone around her, "the most incredible sweetheart!" She has an old bow that is slowing her down on the track, but should not impede her from becoming a great dressage or pleasure mount. She has a great brain and should retrain easily. She'd also make an EXCELLENT broodmare prospect with her smarts, athleticism, and pedigree: she is a daughter of sought-after sire Notebook, and has full siblings who have each earned well over $100K! Price: $1,500 negotiable - the right home is very important to her connections! Call Dorothy at 781-985-3384.

T08-2451-06. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Bright chestnut, 15.2/15.3 hands, 4 years old
"Calyela's Red Rose" is known as "Rosie" around the barn, and that name fits her to a T! She's a beautiful red color, feminine and graceful, and sweet and sociable. She is illustriously bred - a granddaughter of perennial leading sire Storm Cat on her sire's side, and the legendary Kris S. on her dam's - but has been hampered from following in her famous relatives' hoofprints by a stone bruise that nags her in race training. Trainer wants only the best for her and would rather see her become a show prospect than risk getting her hurt. Price: $2,500 negotiable. Call Tony D'Angelo at 805-205-5024 or 617-834-2844.

T08-2452-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 15.2 hands, 4 years old
"All In C.J." is sound, athletic, handsome, friendly, and quiet. He's absolutely everything you'd want in a sporthorse...but too mild-mannered to bring home any checks as a racehorse! Dappled out and a happy guy all around, he's ready to come home with you and master a new career. Price Reduced: $3,000 - VERY NEGOTIABLE - open to all reasonable offers! Call Mike DiMarzo,
617-799-8963.

T08-2453-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 16 hands, 4 years old
"Flying Freddy" has a great name to go with his A+ personality. "Gentle, gentle, gentle" describes this boy: and that's his problem on the track - racing is a bit too overwhelming for a gelding who'd much rather soak up pats and peppermints, enjoy a jaunt through the field or trails, or strut his stuff in the ring! Trainer says Freddy is sound (the wrap in the photo is for a stone bruise that's healing nicely), lightly raced, a nice mover..."just a big scaredy cat on the track!" Does crib but is fine with a cribbing strap. Price: $1,000 to a good home. Call Leona McKanas, 781-727-7226.

T08-2454-06. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Black/near black, 15.2 hands, 7 years old
"Artesia" is an exotic beauty who looks to be a true black (though she is registered as dark bay). Refined, with classic TB beauty and a lovely, doe-eyed expression, she's spent her entire career with one owner and has always received excellent care. She looks and moves wonderfully - just doesn't want to run anymore, and she means too much to her people for them to push her. Trainer calls her "a nice mare - nice to look at, nice to handle!" Price Reduced: $1,000. Call Lorita Lindemann, 603-670-8192.

T08-2455-06. TRAINER-OWNED COLT, Bay, 16.1 hands (and growing), 3 years old
"Big Brother" hasn't a clue that he's a colt: he has exceptional ground manners and is a complete gentleman in his stall! He stood quietly while his trainer petted his face and accepted lots of attention from the CANTER volunteers. With a great big neck and chunky build, this is one substantial horse; he's a true athlete, but not fast enough to pay the bills. He can be quite tough to gallop and is a good-feeling horse, so not for a beginner; but time on the farm should settle this youngster down, and help harness his athleticism for a top-level show career.  Price: $3,999 negotiable.  Call John Bagnera at 781-264-5972.

T08-2456-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 16.2 hands, 5 years old
Here's how the CANTER volunteer who took his listing describes "Lunchtime Prank": "I love him. To the point I don't want you to put him on the site in case I win the lottery and he can be mine. But that would be wrong. :)" This is a big guy with excellent hooves that reflect his turf breeding. He has never made a start; did not enter race training until he was 3, as he was still maturing, then had some complications from his gelding procedure as a 4-year-old that resulted in a few months of soaking up the sun on a Florida farm. At this point, trainer recognizes he's not going to make it as a racing superstar, but knows he'll be someone's favorite riding/show horse! Stood like a statue for his photo, rested his head on the volunteers' shoulders...and, says trainer, "he'll follow you anywhere as long as you have food!" Come meet him before our volunteer goes broke on lotto tickets! Price: $2,500 negotiable. Call Wayne Sargent, 352-229-0509.

T08-2458-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Red bay, 16 hands,  6 years old
"Sea Chest," aka "Pirate," has long been a familiar and beloved face around the Suffolk Downs backside. This is an unbelievably big-hearted, kind, and intelligent horse who truly gives 110%, 100% of the time! He does have chips in his left knee and some resulting arthritic changes (owner has X-rays), so is not suitable for jumping/eventing, but is doing very well turned out on the farm - with his temperament and desire to please, he'll make an exceptional trail/pleasure buddy and best friend. Price: $600, negotiable to a great home - NO DEALERS. Serious inquiries, please, to Monica at waitingtobe617@hotmail.com.

EXTREMELY URGENT! I need a new home WITHIN DAYS - make an offer!
T08-2459-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay with blaze, 16.1 hands, 6 years old
"Little Oz" is a tall, wonderfully appealing boy who needs a home FAST! A genuinely sweet horse who was nickering to the volunteers, looking for pats and scratches. Trainer had intended to turn him into an outrider pony, but is now feeling overwhelmed with too many horses and not enough time or resources. Oz jogs cleanly, just needs some good groceries and love to turn him into really any type of horse! Price: $500 NEGOTIABLE - MUST, MUST SELL! Serious inquiries from good homes, please, to Cathy at 781-608-5376.

T08-2460-06. TRAINER-OWNED QUARTER HORSE GELDING, Chestnut with lots of chrome, 15.2 hands, 8 years old
"Skippy" is a "chunky monkey" of a quarter horse! Built like a tank, he's well-schooled; in addition to his current job as an outrider pony at the track, he's been ridden and shown over 2'6" fences by trainer's daughter. Would make a wonderful show, pleasure, even husband horse! Trainer has too many horses, needs to cut her string. Price: $3,000 negotiable. Call Cathy at 781-608-5376.

T08-2461-06. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Near white, 17 hands,
8 years old

"The Big Ugly" has a name that's not only unfortunate, it's entirely inaccurate, too! There is nothing even close to ugly about this mare; she's tall, striking, kind...and has LOTS of off-the-track training and show experience! Beautiful form over fences...has gone up to 2'6", always keeps her knees nice and tight, and is very intuitive about a course and judging distances. A whiz at flying lead changes, too! Has run primarily on turf, and has stayed sound and in great shape throughout her career. She's been with the same owner/trainer for years, and her excellent care shows in her open, friendly nature. Price: $3,999 firm. Serious inquiries, please, to Henry Rosenthal at 603-568-8804.

T08-2462-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Bay, 15.2 hands,
7 years old

"Kaze Ninja" is a lovely mover and has been ridden on the farm, including some jumping! He is a very classic hunter type and is totally level-headed. This is a horse you could bring home now and have ready to take to a show by August! Trotted out beautifully for the volunteers; trainer says "he looks small, but when you get on him, you really have something ..there's definitely a lot of horse there."  Price: $2,500. Call Henry Rosenthal at 603-568-8804.

T08-2463-06. TRAINER-OWNED FILLY, Dark bay, 16 hands and still growing!, 3 years old
"Little Smiles" is a real find! Much prettier than photo shows; she is smart, an "in your pocket" horse (loves attention), and looks like she'll grow a fair bit...she could finish up at 16.1/16.2! Trainer says she's a good athlete and very sensible, but not happy at the track. Should make a phenomenal event horse, as she appears to be bold but also smart and levelheaded. Price: $2,500 negotiable. Call Dave Odom, 405-575-1075.

T08-2464-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Dark gray with roaning, 15.2 hands, 5 years old
"Buzzin Around" is described by his trainer as "one in a million - he has the best personality!" This adorable boy (check out those bangs in his photo!) is a born ham...always charming in exchange for attention and petting. Trainer notes with loving frustration that Buzz is sound but "never gets anything done on the track because he's too busy clowning around!" He proved this account when he came out of his stall to jog for the volunteers...easy as pie, and slow as can be. Price: $3,000 negotiable. Call Bernie Bramante, 617-291-5104.

T08-2465-06. TRAINER-OWNED FILLY, Chestnut, 16 hands (and still growing!), 3 years old
"Alexia's Choice" very nearly snuck home with an 8-year-old girl visiting the track the day the CANTER volunteers took her picture (too bad for the smitten would-be owner, Mom and Dad weren't quite planning on adding a horse to the family)! This filly is snuggly as can be and very, very gentle. Her groom calls her "Tina Turner" because "she's so classy, has long legs, and never takes a step wrong!" Sound and clean-legged, just too slow to make her living as a racehorse. Price: $3,999 negotiable. Call Ernie Poxon, 813-732-5728.

T08-2466-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Dark bay, 16 hands, 6 years old
HOT BARGAIN ALERT! "Gran City" has it all: looks, a dazzling personality, and jaw-dropping movement - he has a natural spring in his step, floats over the ground! Has spent the past 2 years on the farm, and his heart clearly isn't into the prospect of going back to race training, so trainer is pricing him for a quick sale to a great home. Would be a super hunter/jumper or event prospect...even for a junior rider, considering his friendly, forgiving temperament! Price: $900 to an excellent home. Call Ida Paquette, 813-435-0178.

T08-2467-06. TRAINER-OWNED MARE, Dark chestnut with blaze, 15.3 hands, 4 years old
"Her Expectations" is known around the barn as "Lilly" - a name that really captures her lovely appearance and even more impressive disposition. This wonderfully kind animal is simply begging for a little girl to come love on her! She spent a good half hour with her head in our volunteer's lap. Doesn't have the speed to pick up checks as a racehorse, but with her temperament and classic TB good looks, she should be a superstar in her next career. Price: $2,500 negotiable. Call Al Michelson at 352-207-9823 or 781-341-1649.

T08-2468-06. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING, Seal bay, 16.3 hands,
7 years old

"Nine Bars" means a great deal to his trainer: she saved his life after he suffered a suspensory injury while racing for another outfit. The injury is still fresh and he will need good care, as well as another 2-3 months of stall rest, before slowly being brought back to work. However, he has a wholly calm and trusting disposition that makes him the ideal patient! A big, handsome boy with heart and smarts, he should make a fun buddy for shows and pleasure after his recuperation. (Trainer is happy to put prospective buyers in touch with the treating vet for more information.) Price: $1,500 firm to an excellent home. Call Pamela Pompell at 717-460-0734, or leave a message with Al Michelson at 352-207-9823 if you cannot reach Pamela.

"This Is It" is a well-built, solid mare with impeccable breeding: a daughter of premier Kentucky stallion Is It True, and a granddaughter, on her dam's side, of the red-hot sire Marquetry! An earner of more than $100,000 during her racing days, she retired sound and has been hanging out on the farm enjoying life ever since. Owner had planned to breed her, but is now looking to move out of the business; this friendly, elegant mare will make a first-rate sporthorse broodmare and/or retraining project! Price: Open to offers from excellent homes with references. NO DEALERS. Can be seen on the farm in Fitchburg, MA. Call Ken at 978-345-1860 or e-mail kenposco@verizon.net.

T08-2470-06. TRAINER-OWNED COLT, Dark bay, 15 hands with plenty of growing yet to do, 2 years old
"Little Man" (he is unregistered and we did not get his name) is just a baby...a complete blank slate for you to train up to any discipline! After a snafu with his Jockey Club papers, his registration fell through, and he's ineligible to race as a result. Sound, not a pimple on him, VERY cute - small but lots of muscle and an impressive, compact build! He is completely green under saddle, so you can start him from scratch. A good boy who is easy to handle, seems responsive and willing to learn. If you're looking for a start-to-finish project, for anything from polo to pony club, this is your horse! Price: $2,000 - VERY negotiable - MUST SELL! Call Joe Riggs at 859-707-0880.
