about canter ohio

CANTER Ohio is modeled after the CANTER Michigan program and was started in 2001 by a former racehorse exercise rider, Nancy Koch. CANTER Ohio provides both the free Internet service and placement/rescue services for horses at risk of going to auction and possible slaughter. To date, CANTER Ohio has helped over 2,000 horses find new homes. Of that number, we have provided our rescue services to 517 thoroughbreds at risk of going to slaughter.

We serve the owners and trainers of horses racing at Thistledown Racetrack near Cleveland, Ohio and Beulah Park near Columbus, Ohio. Most of our CANTER-owned horses are located near Cleveland, Ohio.

As with all the CANTER programs, there are no fees, or commissions for our services. We are able to take tax-deductible donations of cash, goods and, of course, Thoroughbred Race Horses. If you would like to donate, please visit our page How You Can Help.
