BACK TO SUCCESS STORIES INDEX

Merianna

I knew we were in for an adventure when we headed to the track to find a new horse for me. I didn't know the weekend would end with such success though.

We found a lovely mare who passed a strict vetting with flying colors. She survived the 10 hour trailer ride and settled into her new home beautifully. She was a little unsure about being turned out at first, but, she soon learned to love it and now she doesn't always want to come back in the barn at the end of the day!

After about 2 weeks, she had become comfortable with her new lifestyle and her new shoes so, I started her under saddle. She was nothing but delightful from the very beginning. So smart and willing-----she really wants to do what I am asking of her.

She isn't always sure what I want, but she always tries to please. Within a few short rides, she was consistently getting both leads and was responding to my aids like a horse with much more training. I was so pleased. We even ventured out in the hay fields and on trails and she was an absolute angel. She came with wonderful ground manners too.

My farrier was quite surprised at how well behaved she was. I was thinking she will be a nice hunter but, after taking a dressage lesson on her, it seems she has the talent for that as well. My instructor really likes her. She has been nothing but good since we brought her home.

I must say I would highly recommend horse shopping at the race track through the CANTER program. Nancy and Noelle from Canter were so helpful----volunteering their time to take us around the track barns and offering great advice. I am really glad we took the chance on the horse shopping adventure with CANTER of Ohio. Hilary Voigt
