CANTER Southern Illinois Approval Form

For those proceeding, we thank you for taking an interest in our program and for taking the time to provide the information necessary for approval. We strive to make you happy with your CANTER horse and we hope for a permanent home for our horse also. Once approved, you will be notified by email or telephone. Your approval will be valid indefinitely for any horse CANTER owns that meets your intended use. You must update your approval and notify us if your contact information or location where a horse will be kept ever changes (email address, street address and/or telephone numbers) from the information we have on file. Generally, approvals are reciprocal within CANTER affiliate programs depending on any geographic limitations. Please notify us if you have already been approved and by which affiliate program.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. Most of the horses that are CANTER-owner and/or special placement have some physical limitations and/or behavioral issues that you should be aware of; we do not (generally) have horses for adoption that are sound for eventing and open jumping.

If you are looking for a prospect for more strenuous work, and it does not say "Believed sound for all disciplines" or "OK to jump" under the description of a CANTER horse, then they probably can't. In that case, we urge you to consider the purchase of a trainer-listed horse that is up to the physical demands of your sport.

2. All prospective adopters must, as part of the adoption agreement, provide semi-annual veterinary updates on the horse(s) adopted; you must also keep the stabling address of the horse current with us.

3. If you are considering adoption of a CANTER-owned or special placement horse, we urge you to consider a pre-purchase exam (at your expense). While we make every effort to disclose the physical condition, and past injury history of all horses we are placing, we cannot guarantee that there are not undiagnosed issues. If you are seeking to adopt a horse with the intention of jumping the animal (or using the horse for more strenuous work,) you are required to have a veterinary check done at your expense to ensure that the horse is going to be suitable for your needs.

4. All CANTER-owned horses are placed in homes where they will have at least one other equine companion; they are herd animals and need to be able to socialize.

5. All CANTER horses are placed with a lifetime Bill of Sale. This does not restrict you from reselling the horse under certain conditions, but it does require that you inform CANTER of your intention to sell, giving first right of refusal. Under NO circumstances may the horse be sold for use in racing, or as a racing broodmare. If you sell the horse and CANTER does not exercise its right of first refusal, it is your obligation to make the new owner aware that they are buying a horse with a lifetime restriction on it.

6. Please consider your circumstances and your level of commitment before applying to adopt a horse through CANTER. The upkeep of a horse is a major commitment, both financially and logistically. If you are unsure about your desire to have a horse for the long-term, adoption of a CANTER-owned horse may not be a suitable option.

Please tell us some information about your experience and the facility where the horse will be stabled. Prospective purchasers will need to complete ALL questions.

All Fields other than Additional Information are
REQUIRED FIELDS. Supply answers for ALL FIELDS. Please email us if you have problems with this form!

Please NOTE: “If you haven’t heard back on an approval, please contact your vet to find out if they have responded to our reference check. 90% of all approval delays are due to the lack of vet responses. It is your job to let your vet know we will be contacting them.”
