Union Train "Choo-choo" is a handsome Kentucky-bred 2019 bay gelding who is a promising prospect for a lower impact and exertion career. He could excel as a pleasure horse with an intermediate to advanced rider and could advance even further in the right program. Choo-choo is currently doing well training at walk, trot and canter. Overall Choo-choo is a good boy and is well-behaved for the vet and farrier and for grooming and tacking. He has no stable vices and is easy to catch in the pasture. Choo-choo has been turned out successfully with two other geldings and is in the middle of the -pecking order with like-minded horses. Choo-choo wears front shoes and should remain shod to be successful in his new career. He is an easy keeper requiring no special feed at his current level of work. He retired with a soft tissue injury in his right forelimb and completed rehab. He has been on solo turnout while rehabbing but has no problem transitioning back to a group gelding turnout situation. If trailered, he will require a trailer where he can exit without having to back off. Choo-choo had 4 starts with a race record of 0-1-0 and earnings of $16,340. His last race was at Del Mar on August 4, 2023.
Any medical records and pertinent history are available to interested and approved adopters. CANTER Michigan always recommends a PPE.
While our OTTBs receive some post-race training, all are offered as green prospects and will require an adopter who has experience with retraining off-track Thoroughbreds and/or will be working under the guidance of an experienced professional trainer.
