Bet the Palace “Palace” is a pretty chill guy who likes to hang out with people and has a promising future in low level dressage or trail with an experienced adopter who can continue his training.
On the ground - Palace really enjoys people and is easy to catch, halter and lead and is content to stand patiently in crossties. He is very good for the farrier and many different handlers. Palace is working on being a good boy for bridling and is making progress.
In the pasture/stable - Palace is happy living outside 24/7 in a six horse herd with large paddock turnout during the day and a huge grass field at night. He stands his ground when he needs to but is submissive. He is happy to integrate with the herd but isn’t super playful. He has been seen to crib, but only a few times while outside and not when being handled.
Under saddle - Palace lunges well at the walk and trot. Under saddle, he is happy to walk in the arena and outside. He will trot when asked but is happy to walk again, so he will do well with someone who enjoys riding at a leisurely pace. Palace is improving every day with conditioning and building a strong foundation at walk and trot before moving on to the canter. Palace has a lovely canter at liberty in the field, so we think he’ll offer that under saddle when he is ready. He is quite easy to ride on a loose rein, steers well, and has only been a gentleman, even with other horses in the arena, offering no inappropriate behavior. As a young, green and growing Thoroughbred, he will do best with an experienced adopter who can continue his training.
Background and care - Palace completely rehabbed from a stress fracture in his left forelimb which was stabilized with surgery. When he demonstrated some intermittent bilateral stifle locking, he underwent successful surgery to relieve the condition and is improving every day. We feel he will continue to improve under a program that can offer 24/7 turnout and regular conditioning.
Care - Palace currently goes barefoot and is doing well. As a growing 4-year-old he enjoys three grain meals a day with additional fat supplementation to help him keep on weight. Palace will do best with a patient farrier who will be mindful of his stifle condition.
Any medical records and pertinent history are available to interested and approved adopters. CANTER Michigan always recommends a PPE.
