Luna Clasica

Listing Type: CANTER Owned
Description:

Luna Clasica- "Luna" is a very athletic and muscular, Kentucky-bred, 2019 mare with loads of potential for a career in low level flat work, dressage and/or jumping. She will do well with an experienced and patient adopter willing to continue her training program.  We can't wait to see how she does!

On the ground - Luna is very straight forward on the ground.   She is fantastic in a busy barn environment or alone in the barn. This well-behaved girl handles well for grooming, fly spraying (she is not a fan of biting insects!), tacking, farrier and vet.

In the pasture/stable - Luna currently enjoys an outdoor life, living 24/7 in a small group of mares. At first submissive, Luna is now the lead mare but in an appropriate way being very social in her herd. As the lead mare, she is generally not herd bound but can become attached to her herd mates, and her handlers have been working to teach her coping strategies to ensure she learns to be comfortable when she leaves the herd, or a member of the herd leaves her.

Under saddle - Luna lunges well with or without equipment. She is happy to work both outside and inside an arena and has been ridden outside with a group of horses at the walk, independently leading the way. She has been ridden at the walk, trot and canter in the arena and has some experience going over poles. Luna holds a nice rhythm and is easy to bend. With smooth, springy gaits, she has a very adjustable way of going. Like most green horses, she is working on improving her steering and is currently ridden on a fairly loose rein.

Care - Luna is currently barefoot but may need front shoes depending on her workload and turnout situation. Luna's current diet is free choice hay, grazing at leisure, and supplement grain and she may need a little more to support her weight with work being an average to hard keeper.

Background and physical capability - Luna is a CANTER Graduate who came back into the CANTER Michigan program in the fall of 2024. After time off and a slow return to work, she exhibited signs of being uncomfortable under saddle and on the lunge. Upon examination it was determined she had kissing spine. She underwent successful surgery to relieve her condition, followed by rehab and then a slow return to work. Her training program was designed to help her build up her back muscles, progressing to lunge line and ridden work. Luna has lived up to her good prognosis and we couldn't be prouder of how well she is doing. She has exhibited no signs of her condition returning and is making progress every day.

Any medical records and pertinent history we have on our horses are available to interested and approved adopters. CANTER Michigan always recommends a PPE.
