PRESS RELEASE – CANTER USA – ASPCA GRANT
CANTER USA has been chosen by ASPCA to receive a generous grant related to the ASPCA “Rescuing Racers Initiative” which will enable CANTER affiliates across the country to “Rehab – Retrain – Rehome” Thoroughbreds that are non-competitive on racetracks nationwide.
2014 is the fifth year ASPCA “Rescuing Racers Initiative” has selected CANTER U.S.A. for this prestigious grant that literally saves the lives of hundreds of Thoroughbreds.
CANTER is comprised of professionals and other horse enthusiasts who donate their time and expertise to CANTER.
CANTER has no paid staff, so every dollar donated or granted is spent to transition thoroughbreds. Each Thoroughbred’s expenses to CANTER range from $2,000 to $6,000 or more until it is retrained and ready for adoption to a CANTER approved home.
Thoroughbreds coming into the CANTER program are given rehabilitation, farrier care, Veterinary evaluation and basic training in walk, trot and canter. Each thoroughbred is then evaluated for its potential career. Most of these equine athletes enjoy new careers as Sport Horses.
Many former CANTER thoroughbreds are now competing at prestigious horse shows leaving behind their racing careers for careers as Sport Horses.
ASPCA and CANTER USA together helping Thoroughbreds!
